Although this specialty crossbreed existed before prior to the turn of the millenium, this designer breed can officially be traced back as a recognized breed since the early 2000’s.

Where are Cavaliers from?
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Golden Retriever, two loving companion dogs, were crossed to create the Golden Cavalier. Golden retrievers are renowned for being wonderful companions and having lovely dispositions. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (KCC) enjoys human company and is a great lap dog.
The Golden Retriever was approved by the American Kennel Club in 1925, and since then, families have long regarded it as one of the best breeds. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was recreated in the 19th century and has a fascinating yet hidden history.
Queen Mary of Scots and her family loved the English Toy Spaniel. The dogs, who take their names from those kings of the fifteenth century, were also kept by her grandson King Charles and great-grandson King Charles the II.

Golden Cavaliers are ‘active dogs with an off switch.’ They love to play, hike, walk, boat, bike, etc and when the fun is done, they’re keen to kick back and chill with their human at the end of a long active day.

Do Golden Cavaliers Shed?
Yes. They are a mix of retriever and a cavalier which are both shedding dogs. However, if you keep them brushed and bathed somewhat regularly, it can help to lessen the shedding.
How big do Golden Cavaliers get?
On average, between 25 and 45 lbs. Though we have had one or two dogs that grew to be upwards of 50-55 lbs.
Do Golden Cavaliers bark a lot?
Dogs bark to communicate. But are they incessant barkers? Not usually.
Are Golden Cavaliers healthy?
The goal of a specialty crossbreed such as these is to reduce genetic defaults found in the purebreds of golden retriever and cavalier. Our parents are OFA and genetically-tested to help keep our pups as healthy as possible along with a stringent cleaning, treatments, and puppy immunizations to give vets a baseline for continuum of care.
