Pet-themed outings are growing in big numbers and companies are taking cues from how people spend time with their pets. The number of people choosing to open their hearts and home to a pet is rising. New statistics for 2022 show 69 million households now include dogs, and everyone wants out of the house for some fun.
We all have our regular warm weather go-to activities we share with our dogs. Maybe it’s time to change things up this Summer and participate in some unique outings. Some of the best memories are made on a whimsical kind of day.
Below are 5 Summer adventure ideas.
1. YAPPY HOURS
Apartments, restaurants and hotels understand how much we love to socialize and relax with our pups at the end of the day. So they are providing amenities that are engaging and entertaining. Dine al fresco with your pup. Gather for puppy play dates at your local dog park (after all immunizations, of course). Visit a vineyard or brewpub and while you’re imbibing, your pup can snack on their own treat. Puppacino, anyone? Imagine the fun of a make-your-own doggie treat station. Mix and mingle with friends while sharing a complementary puptail or pupitizer with your fur baby. It’s all about creative entertainment together.
2. DOG PARADES
Calling all doggie divas. It’s time to put on your walking shoes and hit the road. A growing number of dogs are prancing down main streets all across the country. Choose a theme and distance where you and your dog will be comfortable. Enjoy live music and raffles along the way. Attend the event or be a nearby cheering spectator. It’s a fun and uplifting way to ring in Summer. Seeing all those cute dogs in their costumes you can’t help but smile the entire time. Organizers should have temperature guidelines and water waiting at the end in order to keep everyone safe.
3. OUTDOOR MOVIES
Looking to catch the new Mission Impawsible movie? Well you’re in luck. Recently there’s been a resurgence in drive-in theaters. Back in the day they were a popular family destination, but took a downturn in the 70’s. Luckily for all our Summer night fans hundreds of theaters have popped up throughout North America offering dog-friendly fun. Snacking under the stars with your fur-baby is what Summer memories are all about. Don’t forget to pack all the necessary canine essentials to keep your pup hydrated and happy. Create a cozy experience with your dog’s favorite blankets and lots of snuggly toys.
4. DOG PROMS/SOCIAL GATHERINGS
Let’s get this pawty started! Walk the red carpet to an evening of dancing with the dogs. This is a rather tongue-and-cheek idea, but most definitely fun and worthy of attendance as many charities take this event on to raise money for pets in need. Your dog’s attire can be as simple as their birthday suit to a one-of-a-kind silk and tulle tutu. Who can resist all those photo-ops! A venue or restaurant where guests can dine alfresco with food and entertainment nearby. Pampering activities like dog caricatures and touch massages are fun little additions to this super glamorous night. Don’t forget the fancy take home doggy bag at the end.
5. WEDDINGS
There is something to be said when our dogs receive an invite right along with us. Whether they are a ring bearer or a VIP guest, pets are just like family. It’s being recognized that they should be a part of all those special moments. Pets attending weddings is one of the biggest wedding trends in 2022 according to Google. Will the bride be throwing a biscuit or a flower bouquet? I guess you’ll have to show up to find out.
